Ariat x Relentless: Behind the Design With World Champion Cowboy, Trevor Brazile
Designed with Trevor Brazile, our new, limited-edition collection is Western style and sophistication that’s cowboy to its core.
Ariat x Relentless is renowned for pairing the expertise and passion of 26x PRCA World Champion Trevor Brazile with the technology and innovation that Ariat is known for. So, when we expanded the collection, we stayed true to the original ethos. Our newest limited-edition styles pack a punch with clothing and footwear that look classy and timeless in and out of the arena—and help you perform at your best, too. We sat down with Trevor to hear a bit about what he’s been up to since he retired from professional rodeo and to learn more about how our collaboration came to life.
Ariat x Relentless
Tell me about what inspired the new collection.
Being retired from pro rodeo hasn’t slowed down Trevor’s life. Whether he’s working at his ranch, roping and riding, having meetings in town, or on the road, life is in constant motion. One of his goals with the new collection was to create styles that perform in the arena but look great out of it, too, all while leveraging the design ethos of “elevated Western.”
“Ariat hit the nail on the head with the inspiration,” Trevor says. “It ties in well in our industry because it’s classy, but these are also pieces you can work in or wear to town for dinner. You're never out of place… I don't feel overdressed at the barn or underdressed in a business meeting. That's what I'm so proud of with this collection, and Ariat knocked it out of the park.”
“This collection is a one-stop shop for classic, classy Western style.”
How involved were you with the design process?
“I've been a big part of everything I’ve done with Ariat,” Trevor explains. “The team is truly interested in moving cowboys’ and cowgirls’ lives forward, and they've been at the forefront of innovation for so long, and that’s what drew me in. On their own, technology and tradition are not enough. But Ariat puts those two together with everyday use, which has made this collection real.”
“Combining classic Western style with all the technology that Ariat brings to the table makes this collection that much better.”
What are your favorite styles in the collection?
Trevor is a big fan of the Relentless Amarillo Shirt Jacket because it’s versatile, practical, and looks great wherever you wear it. “I wore it in Vegas, and I'm wearing it out riding horses— I’ve worn it everywhere,” he laughs. “And through my testing, I discovered that the fabric is perfect—it doesn't collect hay, and it’s very quick-drying, so you can wear it to the barn, and then you can wear it to dinner.”
“The outerwear pieces are great with everything, and I'm really proud of them. They're not too hot, not too cold. This is an every-season outerwear collection that can be worn everywhere.”
We are also adding Relentless denim back to the line, and Trevor is eager to see those styles out in the world. “I’m glad to have them back. I love the fit and the function of those jeans—a lot.” The collection will have a new denim style: the M4 Blade Relentless Boot Cut, which will come in multiple washes so that you can pick a pair based on your personal style.
Overall, Trevor says the most challenging part about testing each piece in this new collection has been telling people they have to wait to buy it. “Especially when I was wearing the jacket, the jeans, or the boots, people would be like, ‘I love that! Where can I get it?’ And I had to say, well, I'm actually testing it, so it's not out yet.”
What does this collection mean to you?
“I've had a very long partnership with Ariat, and I think a lot of what makes our partnership special is because they lean on me and other cowboys to help them,” Trevor says. “That means the most to me, and I think everyone will enjoy it.”
Trevor Brazile Talks Life After Rodeo
How has your career in professional rodeo shaped who you are today?
Trevor says that although rodeo isn't a team sport, there’s mutual respect between competitors inside and outside of the industry. “You don't win every time, and you don't even win the majority of the time, so you're happy for people when they win because you know how much sacrifice and work goes into it,” he says. “The caliber of people is unmatched. Our industry is full of people that you could call on in any situation, and they would have your back.”
What is life like now that you’re retired from pro rodeo?
“I was worried about stepping away from rodeo and missing the friends I've made,” he says. “But I realized that the horses were my real passion and were a big part of my success in the arena. Being able to train horses and see them develop is very rewarding. It keeps me busy and getting better as a cowboy and a horseman. And so even though I'm retired from rodeo, I don’t feel retired because I spend every day learning and striving to be a better cowboy.” Trevor’s son, Treston, is very involved in high school rodeo, and Trevor is committed to helping the next generation of rodeo athletes be the best they can be.
